This is not a photograph of my own but I wanted to introduce Olivia to those of you out there who may be interested.As many of you will know we are coming up to the big Eurovision Song Contest in Europe and Olivia will be representing our tiny island.Her song is called "Vertigo " and really is quite catchy as it combines Maltese and Mediterranean melodies mixed with Oriental ones.You can see the new video on You Tube and if you like it then remember to vote for us because of the music,since unlike our neighbours we have no geographical buddies who vote for the guys next door ha ha!!

Marco Brown Participates Against AIDS

Maltese artist Marco Brown is yet again to represent his artwork in the annual Bank Hapoalim artists against AIDS charity auction in Tel Aviv,Israel.Last year , for the first time ever ,he was selected as a Maltese artist to take part in the high profile art ehibition,the proceeds of which are sent to organisations which develop research techniques against the disease.His participation did not go unnoticed and he was asked to donate another piece for this year's show which is to take place at the bank's headquarters in the city this coming weekend.The piece chosen is entitled "Tears" representing tears of joy,sadness and relief all intermingled and reflecting in the ebbing tides. Marco has been based in Israel since last summer where he has been busy with art projects and intensive Hebrew studies.Since his arrival he has participated in three exhibitions and has made it a point to speak about the local Maltese arts scene which is still relatively unknown in Israel and this has had alot of positive feedback and he has received expressions of interest.He hopes to be able to organise a fair of Maltese artists in Tel Aviv this coming summer and is looking for expressions of interest within the Maltese arts community. A big warm hello to you all and thank you for all the kind and positive words you have sent to me by mail.Feedback is always appreciated and I thank you for your generosity of spirit.Just taking a few minutes here to put in a word for a brand new group I have created further to the art group I set up for artists in Malta a few days ago.

As you may know I am now based in Tel Aviv where the arts scene is tremendous....always so much going on and such creative talent out here!Impressed by all of that I set up a new forum called ISRAELI ARTISTS AND FRIENDS which can be found here at http://www.flickr.com/groups/israeliartistsandfriends/

SOME OF MY PAINTINGS

This painting is called GUIDANCE and at the time I painted it I was In Scotland where I staged my last exhibition in the United Kingdom last spring.I had no idea but during the pre vernissage there were no less than FIVE people interested in it...it is a shame I never make copies of my paintings!!!!!Anyway it went to a person who deserves a bit of guidance in her life and I am happy she was the one who bought it out of the five.
Allow me to let you in on a little secret....I have a total aversion to green!!!!!!I painted this piece called CALEDONIAN MISTS to try and get used to painting in this colour so it was more or less an experiment.At the time I was visiting Scotland where there was such an abundance of natural greenery and I was preparing for an exhibition there last spring and the painting was greatly appreciated so I guess that gives me food for thought now
Here you can see my SUMMER SWIMMERS which is one of the last paintings I did before leaving Malta and it is now on Alex's wall....well at least I hope it is!!!!!It is about time you put it up man!!!This is a special painting for me once again with the usual appearance of my muse Gil and hey ho...a guest appearance by the artist himself on the right.This was so much fun to paint even if it took endless hours to clear up afterwards.Looking at it now I am getting all nostalgic about being at the Blue Lagoon again..........after spending a full day there together that was after all the source of inspiration.Wish I could dive in there now!!!!
Ahhhhhh!!!!!My LEJLA MALTIJA ( MALTESE EVENING ) almost sends shivers down my side when I look at it and I am far away from the shores of the tiny island.It is another of my semi figurative pieces and is a pretty typical Maltese evening scene with Saint Julian's as a backdrop and its yellow and golden buildings which come to life in the evening skies.The boats in the foreground are the typical Maltese Dghajsa which you cant help but notice when you come over to the island.A special thought for Vesna and her mummy in Moscow as this is now on their living room wall.Thanks for your support!!!
This piece is called THE GODDESS OF FERTLITY.In Malta we have a really really ancient history going back to prehistory.It is something which is really worth looking into if you are interested.Malta may be a tiny place but you would be overwhelmed if you had any idea just how old its history is!Anyway this is my kind of semi figurative tribute to our goddess and I hope you can feel the vibes!

Here you have another massive favourite of mine called BREAKTHROUGH.It is now hanging on the wall of Guenter in Germany who told me he fell in love with it as soon as he saw it.It was great fun working on this one and had Gil as my muse who got absolutely and literally covered in paint from head to toe!!What a session!!!!I love the way the bright gold tones really stand out against the dark blues.What about you?

This is another big favourite of mine which I would like to share with you.Its name is the SNAKE CHARMER OF MARRAKESH and it is now on show in Cyprus where I went a couple of weeks ago to sign a contract in this great gallery in Larnaca.I am a big fan of le Maroc and it is a source of inspiration to me.It is a lovely place to visit and I suppose this painting is a visual memory of all the sounds and feelings I remember from my visits there.

This is a piece called BAMBOO which I painted a couple of years ago when I was preparing for an exhibition in Scotland.I guess it is basically an expression of something serene,thoughts flowing out of warmth and dreams and all that.Incidentally it is one of my first major pieces to be sold abroad so it has a special meaning to me!I hope you will like it too!

This one is called AHAVA which means 'LOVE' in Hebrew.So why call it something in Hebrew I hear you say!!!Well , infact it was dedicated to the one I love in Israel and it represents the beating of two hearts bound together as they go on through the journey of life.Let me know what you think!

Although I had always been a hobby painter from a very young age I did not study art to any high level as I specialised in the language field all the way to University after which I began a teaching and translating career in Paris .Only then did I start thinking that there was never really any free time for me to develop my artistic activities and in 2000 I took the decision to relocate to Malta,reduce my active time at work and focus more slowly but surely on my artwork leading me to give up all professional activity other than painting in 2002.Since then there has been the creation of my website at www.marcoart.co.uk ,the little baby of my whizz kid cousin Karl who really has gold in his hands and to whom I owe so much!With time there have been exhibitions,media reports and other artistic activities both at home and abroad and the rest is history and I am proud to say that now there is more or less a home for my artwork in every continent...still working on Antarctica though!!!!!!

Malta?

You might have heard the name somewhere,like Eurovision or something but do you know where it actually is?

As the saying goes the best things come in little sizes so I guess that means that Malta is absolutely fabulous as you don't get much smaller than that.

As a child of Malta there is no place like home even if I move around a lot.
In very few places will you find such friendly people and a totally chilled out environment.

I am from Ta'xbiex which is basically a small town based around a marina next to Sliema facing the capital city Valletta which is full of history and charm.If you click on Valletta here you will see what I see when I get out of my building.

So what has tiny Malta brought to the world besides Fabrizio, Ira , Chiara and our delicious sexy multi talented diva-Clare Agius ...(indeed I am a fan but more importantly best friends since childhood) and Pastizzi?

Welcome to my island in the sun and enjoy.........or as we say "merhba".
